A small company, struggling with an Employee Relations issue, realizes the additional benefits of their Genesis partnership
THE CLIENT
A small engineering company in Boston, with staff working remotely in two other states.
THE SITUATION
The company was embarking on a multi million dollar international project. They were under pressure to resolve an ongoing employee issue relating to poor performance. The company was considering terminating the employee in question but didn’t think they had the substantiation and documentation to do so. They were considering counseling the employee but didn’t know the best manner in which to do so.
When an employee fails to meet expectations, how do you determine the best course of action for both the employee and the organization as a whole?
THE GENESIS SOLUTION
The company turned to Genesis not only for their expertise in handling all kinds of employee relations, but for advice, support and a helping hand.
The company’s senior management team did not feel adequately prepared to deal with their employee relations problem. Once involved, Genesis strongly recommended the company prepare communications that detailed the employee’s failure to meet expectations. Genesis promptly drafted a Performance Improvement Plan that outlined the employee’s strengths while indicating areas for improvement. The Plan gave a 30-60 day timeline within which certain expectations would need to be met in order for the employment relationship to continue.
Genesis then coordinated and facilitated a conference call between the employee and the company President to discuss the Plan and get the employee’s feedback. Though the employee determined that the position was not a cultural fit and ultimately left the company, the process leading up to the resignation was a smooth one.
The company reports that they would never have been able to work through these employee issues without Genesis by its side. The Genesis partnership gave this company peace of mind in more ways than one:
- A Dedicated Team - The company reports that in the case of a personnel problem, they no longer have to worry how to "handle it" themselves; they now have a dedicated HR Business Partner to help them.
- Unparalleled Expertise – When this employee resigned, Genesis strongly recommended an Exit Interview to give all parties a chance to discuss remaining concerns; the company realized it was an opportunity to finalize a Severance Agreement that would prevent any future issues from arising.
